In the heart of Depression-era Arkansas, William T. Dillard opened a small five-and-dime store on Main Street in Nashville. He built a business on the simple conviction that quality merchandise and genuine customer respect would carry more weight than any discount. That first storefront, measuring just 2,500 square feet, became the foundation for what Dillard’s is today.
